Electronic Prescribing and CPOE Medication Orders

 

[Certification Criteria 170.314 (b)(3) and 170.314 (a)(1)]

Electronic Prescribing enables users to send non-controlled and/or controlled prescriptions, electronically.

 

Users can also create and send non-controlled and/or controlled medication orders electronically.

 

Prescriptions and medication orders can be submitted electronically directly and securely to a pharmacy or they can printed for patients to take with them

 

Fees for electronic prescribing are assessed as additional fees to the base monthly subscription fee for the EHR.

 

Annual fee per prescribing user for non-controlled substance permissions.

 

Annual fee per prescribing user for controlled substance permissions.

 

A security token fee may be required if prescribing user does not use free VIP Access mobile app for 2-factor authentication.

 

Users agree to accepted usage and security policies in the service agreement such as not sharing their login credentials and prescription permissions with non-authorized users who have not been added to the EHR through the proper authentication and identify proofing processes. Access to electronic prescribing transactions through Surescripts requires successful identification verification of each individual prescriber; their appropriate medical credentials and their identity are verified through an ID proofing process utilizing a third-party vendor.
USPS Street Address Verification Users’ street addresses are also verified as legitimate US Postal Service addresses by a third party vendor.

 

Verified USPS addresses required to electronically prescribe and for ID proofing process.

Nominal annual fee per provider user, included in the base monthly subscription fee for the EHR. For accepted usage related to EHR1 per the service agreement. Required to register for access to electronic prescribing, medication orders, and to complete the ID proofing process for electronic prescribing and creating medication orders.
Drug-Drug, Drug-Allergy Checks

Automatically enabled drug-drug and drug-allergy interaction check alerts.

 

Checks drug-drug and drug-allergy interactions in real time as user creates prescriptions and medication orders.

Included in the electronic prescribing additional annual fee. Must agree to accepted EHR1 usage policies per service agreement and electronic prescribing usage policies. No technical or practical limitations.
Drug Formulary Check

Automatically enabled drug formulary checks.

 

Checks drug formulary in real time as user creates prescriptions and medication orders.

Included in the electronic prescribing additional annual fee. Must agree to accepted EHR1 usage policies per service agreement and electronic prescribing usage policies. No technical or practical limitations.
View, Download, or Transmit to a Third Party

 

[Certification Criteria 170.314 (e)(1)]

Enables user to send direct messages and health information securely to third parties outside of the EHR via a DirectTrust/EHNAC Accredited established HISP. One-time setup fee per organization and annual fee per provider user, in addition to base monthly subscription fee for the EHR. Users agree to accepted usage policies per the service level agreement.  Users agree to all HIPAA protocols regarding the transmission of PHI via direct messaging. Users may only submit properly formatted, secure, and encrypted PHI via direct messaging and are liable for any incorrect sharing of PHI to the wrong third party recipients, whether intended or accidental. Requires additional setup with third party direct messaging HISP vendor.
ADA CDT Licensed Use User is provided full access to the latest ADA CDT dental procedures codes. Nominal annual fee per provider user, included in the base monthly subscription fee for the EHR. No contractual limitations. No technical or practical limitations.
Two-Factor Security Authentication Provides secondary authentication step during login to offer another layer of protection to PHI in users’ accounts.

 

Required for all users.

Monthly fee included in the base monthly subscription fee for the EHR.

 

Users may incur additional fees for use of telephone call or SMS text message Duo authentication.

 

Use of Duo Push or Duo Mobile-generated passcode, which are app-based, but require the use of a smartphone or mobile device, is free.

Users agree to security and accepted usage policies as per the service agreement.  Must also agree to Duo’s Service Terms and Conditions. Users can complete Duo’s two-factor authentication using a valid telephone # or by a code via SMS messages.  A certain number of telephony credits are available to each user but if all credits are used, user may be charged for additional telephony credits.

 

Users with smartphones can use Duo’s app and receive Duo Pushes or Duo Mobile-generated passcodes for free.  Passcodes generated using a hardware token or sent via SMS text message may incur additional fees.
